1.Do you have support from your senior management team? Buddying schemes are more like to succeed when they are actively promoted and supported by senior management.
2. Speak to your HR department, do they already have a buddying programme in place or information about buddying in your organisation?
3. Identify staff within your team to be buddies. Review recent appraisals to see if anyone was looking to develop their management or leadership skills. Alternatively, you may wish to offer all members of the team the opportunity to buddy, and ask for volunteers.
4. Provide training for buddies if required. Speak to your HR department to see if there is any central training available.
5. Introduce the buddy to the new starter. Ideally this should be done before the new starter’s first day in post. See our bringing young people on board checklist for more information.
